Judicial Elections Compact
The first initiative of the The Concord Project is a Judicial Elections Compact.
The Compact takes aim at the increasing politicization of our courts - not by reforming away judicial elections but by imagining an entirely new way to conduct campaigns. The initiative provides a nonpartisan, transparent, and equal campaign platform for judicial candidates through voluntary, binding compacts. This approach is innovative, yet practical - transforming how we think about judicial independence while keeping what works.
Our founders have a deep understanding of the essential accountability function served by democratic elections. However, the reality is that many elections for judicial office in the United States foment political division, weaken the effectiveness of the courts, and undermine trust in the rule of law. The Concord Project will work in a fully non-partisan way to strengthen accountability while resisting democratic erosion.
